News Report on Indy Star News - Intake

Background:

Indianapolis Chinese Performing Arts, Inc. (ICPAI) started by 10  Chinese lady volunteers in September of 2003 (Indy Chinese Show Group). The group was registered as a non profit organization with three functional groups in April 2005. Currently ICPAI has over 100 members with three major functional groups (Show, Tai Chi and Little Flower). All the members in ICPAI are full time professional workers (e.g. Eli Lilly, AT&T/SBC) Citizen Gas, IUPUI, etc.). The group has been actively involved in the local community culture related events since its formation and all the organizers, instructors, and performers are volunteers.

The group currently conducts Chinese folk and traditional dances, shows and Tai Chi performances. Each program has professionally designed costumes imported from Beijing, China. There are currently over 3-hours of dance and show programs available for stage performance. The group has performed at various cultural and celebration related events since its formation (see the activity list below).

Group members are required to sign the liability waver and pay annual member fees. Assigned show/dance performers are required to have 80% or more attendance rate for committed program practice and performance events. Members are not allowed to copy or reproduce any group programs or costume designs for any other organizations. Members are not allowed to perform the group programs for any events without board or committee’s approval. Members are responsible for maintaining group’s costumes and other properties in good conditions.

45. Greenfield City Asian Culture Celebration – 6:00-9:00PM, Aug 25, 2007, Ricks Centre of Greenfield. Volunteers: Total 35 adults and 14 kids.
46. Carmel City International Art Festival – 2:00-3:00PM, Sept 22, 2007. Carmel Art District (Range Lane/Main St.). 45 minutes programs with over 30 adult and kids volunteers.
47. Stir Crazy (Located in Greenwood Mall area) Grand Opening, 6:30-9:00PM, 11/6 (Tue). 15 volunteers performed for 1 hour 15 minutes.

48. Innternational Festival at Fair Ground, 12:00-1:00PM, 11/17/07, Saturday. Programs: DaiZu, Xinjiang, DCJ/XCJ, MiaoZu, Qing/Tang, Red Bowtie kids dance. Over 40 adult and kids volunteers attended the event.

49. Indianapolis Chinese Physician Association Year-end Party, 6:00-8:00PM, 12/8/2007. Programs: FSG, Solo Fan, JXH, Peacock, DCJ, Zangzu Solo, Xinjiang. 58. Asian Festival - Garfield Park, 12:00-6:00PM, 5/10/2008. Programs: multi-folk dances, Red Bowtie, Wedding, Qing, Qipao and Wedding demo

59. China earthquake relief fundraising event – Madam Walker Theater Center, 3:00-5:00PM, 6/10/08. Played as an event organizer with total 2 hours programs co-performed with other organizations and professional artists. A total of $8,071 for China earthquake and $635 for Indiana flood relives were raised from tickets and donations. All the funds were delivered to American Red Cross-Greater Indianapolis by June 20, 2008.

60. Two Worlds, one language through art event – Indianapolis Art Center, 6:00-7:00PM, 7/2, 16, 30 and 8/13/08. Programs: Qing/Tang show, Wedding dance.

61. Zionsville Annual Fall Festival - Lion's Park, Zionsville, 11:00-12:00Noon, 9/7/08. Programs: Spirit of Peacock dance, Wedding, Qing or Qing/Tang, HTYS.
